Premier League: New twist in Maguire – United transfer saga

What’s the story?

Manchester United are becoming more confident about signing their primary target, Harry Maguire. United have been chasing the center-back since last summer when Jose Mourinho couldn’t get his man.

According to Sky Sports, Harry Maguire has opted to sit out from the training to force his move to Manchester United.

In case you didn’t know…

Manchester United has needed a centre-back since last summer. United attempted to sign many centre-backs last summer, but couldn’t complete a deal for any which also led to Mourinho furiously bashing Ed Woodward for the lack of signings.

Harry Maguire has been on top of United’s wishlist since last summer after Maguire had a good World Cup for England in Russia. This summer United has decided to focus on only one centre-back, Harry Maguire. However, the negotiations between Leicester City and Manchester United have not been fruitful.

Heart of the matter

It is being believed the only issue in the deal is the asking price. Leicester City are believed to be asking for £80m while Manchester United value the centre-back at £70m.

Harry Maguire is also believed to be quite keen on joining the Red Devils. He is reportedly upset with Leicester hierarchy for pricing him out from the move. He believes Leicester are asking too much money to keep him at the Foxes.

This issue has led Maguire to sit out of training to force a move to Old Trafford.

Talks are ongoing between Manchester United and Leicester to find a breakthrough in the deal. However, Leicester are adamant on their asking price which will make Harry Maguire world’s most expensive defender ahead of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

What’s next?

The transfer window in England closes on 8 August, one day before the opening game in the Premier League. Manchester United will need to get a breakthrough in next 10 days to sign Maguire which they have struggled to do whole summer.
