Posted by

Lille’s Nicolas Pepe has been the most wanted winger in Europe this summer. The Ivory Coast international has been on the short list of many European heavyweights including Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Napoli, Manchester United and Arsenal.

According to BBC, Arsenal’s bid of £72m has been accepted by Lille for their talented winger.

Statistics

Pepe had an amazing 2018-19 season with Lille. His twenty-two goals and eleven assists for Lille helped him in being nominated for the best player in the Ligue 1 award along with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria.

Pepe had an average rating of 7.6 for the last season, in the 45 appearances he made for both club and country. The Lille winger likes to dribble and averaged 3 dribbles per game in Ligue 1 last season along with his average of 2 key passes per game.

Playing Position

Nicolas Pepe’s favoured position is right-wing. He made 35 appearances as a right-winger last season. He likes to cut inside from the right and prefers playing on the right side. Along with his preferred right winger position, Pepe also played twice as a right-sided forward and 4 times as the right midfielder in all competitions for club and country in 2018-19.

Characteristics

Nicolas Pepe’s statistics show he is got an eyer for goal but there is more to his playing style than just some number of goals. Pepe likes to dribble past his opponents and loves making run behind the defence using his fast speed. He has a habit of getting on those through balls and making them count.

He also likes to cut inside from the right-wing play a short pass and get on the through ball. Besides scoring goals Pepe can also create some as he can play those key passes that can help his team’s cause.

Defensively Nicolas Pepe is not as hardworking as he is offensively. Pepe doesn’t like to track back much and also prefers not to dive into tackles.

He is very much a player you need in your opponent’s half rather than yours.
