Barcelona has managed to beat Paris Saint Germain to the signing of in-demand English wonderkid Louie Barry. The 16-year-old will join Blaugrana from West Bromwich Albion.
According to OneFootball, the centre-forward rejected a contract offer from West Brom and was a free agent. Barcelona will reportedly be paying West Brom €130,000 as a compensation fee for signing their youth product.
What’s the story?
However, it was earlier reported that Paris Saint Germain had won the race for his signature after Barry had a medical in Paris. Barcelona came in at the very last minute and did enough to convince the teenager to join the club.
He will reportedly join the Barcelona B team and his progress will be monitored before he can be introduced into the first-team at Barcelona.
Louie Barry has become another player who will join Barcelona despite Paris Saint Germain’s serious interest in the player. In recent years Barcelona have beaten Thomas Tuchel’s side having lost out on signings of Arthur, Frenkie De Jong and Phil Coutinho to the La Liga Champions.
Who is Louie Barry?
The Englishman is an academy product of West Bromwich Albion. Barry has dual citizenship and is eligible to represent England and Ireland. He has represented England U-15 twice and England U-16 nine times, scoring seven goals in total.
Playing for West Bromwich Albion Youth team, he has been a key performer for his side in U-18 Premier League. He made 16 appearances for West Brom’s youth side in U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2.
Barry can play anywhere in the front three positions. Although he mainly plays as a centre-forward, he can play on both wings as well.
