Manchester City are set to break their highest fee paid record next week. They are reportedly to pay €70m for the Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri.
The previous highest fee that Man City has paid is €65m which they paid last summer for signing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.
According to ESPNFC, Pep Guardiola has urged Man City to sign Rodri after missing out on Jorginho last summer. Now, Man City has decided to trigger Rodri’s release clause of €70m after Atletico Madrid refused to negotiate a deal for their midfielder.
Pep Guardiola wants to sign a cover for Fernandinho who can also succeed him at Man City. Rodri has been looked up as the perfect replacement for the Brazilian.
Rodri has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. The 22-year-old made 43 appearances in 2018-19 for Atletico.
Bayern Munich were also reported to be interested in the midfielder but he has already decided to move to Manchester City.
