Manchester United has submitted a bid for West Ham United’s Issa Diop. The Red Devils are in market for a new center-back this summer.
Absence of Champions League next season has become a hurdle for United in getting star names this summer. Kalidou Koulibaly, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire have all been linked with the Red Devils but Champions League absence make them hard to get.
Now, Manchester United has turned their attention towards West Ham United’s Issa Diop. On Tuesday various reports came about West Ham’s attempted offer of Anthony Martial plus cash deal for Issa Diop.
However, Ed Woodward said no to the offer and instead made a counter-offer. He has offered Phil Jones and £45m for Diop.
Although United’s bid was immediately rejected by West Ham United negotiations are expected to take place soon depending upon United’s ability to sign their other targets for the summer.
Diop joined the Hammers last summer for £20m from Toulouse. The center-back is reportedly valued around £75m by the West Ham board.
The Frenchman had a good first season in the Premier League with the Hammers. He had an average rating of 6.89 in the 33 appearances he made in his first season.
Diop proved to be a good solid option in the defence of West Ham. He averaged 2.1 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 4.7 clearances per game for the Hammers.
The Red Devils have made a new center-back their priority signing this summer. However, Champions League absence is proving to be a cause of concern in their chase for the top targets this summer.
The valuation for Issa Diop looks far apart between both the parties involved and deal looks far from being likely right now.
Although questions are being raised regarding the future of Phil Jones as well. He is likely to be offloaded this summer if not to West Ham then to some other club.
