Manchester United has reportedly made a new attempt to keep Paul Pogba at Old Trafford this summer. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to offer him a new contract with massively increased wages.
Manchester United is not ready to let go of their superstar this summer. The United board has decided to offer Pogba a new contract to keep him at Old Trafford.
What’s the Story?
Paul Pogba dropped a huge hint this weekend in Tokyo regarding his future. He told reporters in Tokyo that “it’s time for new challenge”.
Their are reports suggesting Real Madrid and Juventus are both interested in the Frenchman. Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has Paul Pogba on top of his midfield shortlist. Juventus, on the other hand, are highly interested in bringing back their former star.
Ed Woodward is believed to be keen on keeping Pogba at Old Traffor due to his commercial value. Although reports suggest that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and his backroom staff are not much concerned about his potential departure.
An anonymous member of Solksjaer’s backroom staff had quoted to Mail that they “have a problem with Pogba almost every day”.
Still Manchester United has decide to offer him a new contract with wages of £500k-a-week.
Pogba had a great 2018-19 season with France but his season with Manchester United went horribly. He was even dropped from the United squad by Jose Mourinho while he was in charge.
In the 14 games for France last season, Pogba averaged 7.1 along with winning the World Cup in Russia. However, for Manchester United despite having a poor season his average rating in the red shirt remains same at 7.1 in 47 appearances.
A lot of blame has been put on Pogba’s shoulder for United’s poor season but stats show he was their best player last season. Pogba scored 16 goals and made 10 assists for United last season. It was his best season in terms of goals output.
He averaged 1.6 key passes, 1.5 dribbles and 5 long balls per game. He had the best average rating for last season among all the Manchester United players. The next best player was Ander Herrera with an average rating of 6.9 in the Premier League where as Pogba had 7.3 rating.
It looks highly unlikely that Paul Pogba will stay at Manchester United this summer. Although a new contract is a good attempt by United board to keep Pogba.
Lack of Champions League this season along with last season’s incidents makes it hard for United to keep Pogba. Paul Pogba was abused by Manchester United fans after the last game of the season.
Real Madrid and Juventus are highly interested in the Frenchman that will make it hard for United to convince him to stay.
