Reports have emerged that Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been in discussion with Thomas Meunier for over a month. The Paris Saint-German right-back has been rumoured to be available this summer.
What’s the Story?
According to RMC Sport, Meunier is interested in reuniting with his former boss. He is believed to be in contact with the Gunners boss for over a month. He has reportedly spoken multiple times with Emery in recent weeks. The Belgian is also rumoured to have been offered a provisional contract.
Arsenal are waiting to agree the contract with the Belgian and once they have an agreement with the Belgian, Gunners will submit a bid to Paris Saint-German.
Gunners value the right-back for around €20m. However, Paris United report that PSG value the Belgian at €30m. Arsenal also face competition from Manchester United for Meunier. Although Emery’s relationship with Meunier makes Arsenal favourite for his signature.
The Belgian joined PSG from Club Brugges in the summer of 2016. He made 40 appearances for club and country in the 2018-19 season.
Being an attacking full-back, the right-back scored 6 goals and made 8 assists. On the defensive side, he averaged 1.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game. He had a pass success rate of 84%, and averaged 1.6 long balls and 1.1 key passes per game.
Unai Emery is believed to be given a budget of around €60m. The lack of Champions League next season will hurt Gunners in their chase for top players. Although Thomas Meunier still looks like a player Arsenal can sign in this summer.
