2018-19 Premier League was full of entertainment. The title race went on till the last match day. Manchester City clinched the title by one point by beating Brighton 4-1 on the last day. Liverpool recorded the highest points ever for the runner-up in the history of English league. As the curtains fall down on another season, let’s have a look at the three best centre-back of the season.

Liverpool kept most number of clean sheets this season, 21. They were closely followed by Manchester City with 20. Here we look at the three best centre-back of the season.

Virgil van Dijk

There’s no doubting PFA Player of the Year was the best centre-back in the Premier League this season. The Dutch captain has been so instrumental in Liverpool’s brilliant defensive performance this season. Many believe there would have been no title challenge if not for Virgil van Dijk.

He has a 7.44 rating in Premier League this season. He has been involved in all the games and has played 3385 minutes. Virgil averages one tackle per game and 5.1 clearances per game. He also has a pass success rate of 89.7%. Dutchman has also contributed with 4 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League. He received only one yellow card whole season and four man of the match awards.

Aymeric Laporte

Frenchmen was an integral figure of Man City’s defence throughout the season. Even when other centre-backs of Manchester City were rotated, Laporte stood as the best centre-back for Man City.

He made 34 appearances in the Premier League this season. He has an average rating of 7.05 this season. Laporte averages 1.1 interceptions per game, 1.2 tackles and 2.7 clearances per game. He has also contributed with three goals and three assists. He has received three yellow cards this season and has a pass success rate of 92.3%.

Willy Boly

Wolves finished seventh after gaining promotion to Premier League. Boly was a mainstay in Wolves three-men defence. He put in many good performances against top six clubs in Premier League, most notably against Man City at home. He and Coady were rock solid for Wolves at the back.

French centre-back made 36 appearances this season. He had an average rating of 7.12 for the season. He averaged 2.4 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4.8 clearances per game. Boly also contributed with 4 goals. He received two yellow and one red card in the Premier League.
