Borussia Dortmund’s ambitions of clinching the Bundesliga title suffered a huge blow last weekend when Lucien Favre’s men shockingly fell 2-5 at home to bitter rivals Schalke in the Ruhr derby. Now, they will travel to Werder Bremen for their next Bundesliga fixture.
Luckily for Favre and his men, Bayern Munich also slipped up playing only a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Nurnberg on the following day.
Dortmund is now only two points behind the reigning champions at the top of the standings and can still hope of claiming the silverware with only three matches left to play.
Werder Bremen – LLLWD
Werder gave away the battle for European positions with a surprisingly high 4-1 defeat away at Fortuna Dusseldorf last weekend.
Despite the sore luck of recent weeks, Bremen can still look back on what has been a progressive season. They will hope to finish the campaign with a few good results and take some positivity into the start of next season.
Borussia Dortmund – LWWLW
Borussia Dortmund suffered a damaging defeat to rivals Schalke last time around. But they must pick themselves back up quickly if they are to stay in the title race with three games to go. The Black and Yellows will be hoping for a repeat of the 4-0 win away to Freiburg two weeks ago. But they will have to do so without the suspended Marco Reus.
Fin Bartels and Philipp Bargfrede are both out injured for Werder Bremen. Niklas Moisander is suspended for the game against Dortmund. While Milot Rashica is doubtful for the clash.
Dan-Axel Zagadou and Achraf Hakimi are out injured for Dortmund. Marius Wolf and Marco Reus are both suspended after both picked up a red card against Schalke last time out.
Formation : 4-3-3
Pavlenka; Gebre Selassie, Veljkovic, Friedl Augustinsson; Sahin, M. Eggestein, Klaassen; Osako, Kruse, Rashica.
Formation : 4-2-3-1
Burki; Piszczek, Akanji, Weigl, Diallo; Witsel, Delaney; Sancho, Gotze, Guerreiro; Alcacer.
Weser Stadium, Werder Bremen
Despite being without suspended Marco Reus and Marius Wolf who was sent off within five minutes of each other in the 4-2 defeat to Schalke last time out, Dortmund should still have enough firepower and motivation to grind out the result they need.
We expect them to win the game and stay in the title race. Maybe time for Alcacer to get back his early season form.
