ICC World Cup: Afghanistan Cricket team announced

Afghanistan Cricket team for the ICC Cricket World Cup has been announced. The Afghanistan team will be lead by Gulbadin Naib.

Despite facing criticism from senior players like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan, Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to change their captain ahead of the World Cup that starts next month. As senior players were against a change in captaincy ahead of the World Cup.

Afghanistan will have star players like Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. Kings XI Punjab’s spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has also been selected for the World Cup. Wicket-keeper opener, Mohammad Shahzad is another big name in their squad.

Who Missed out?

Zahir Khan, Ikram Alikhil, Karim Janat, Sayed Shirzad, Javed Ahmadi, Shapoor Zadran and Fareed Malik have all missed out on the plane for England.

“Luckily for us, the come back of senior Fast bowler Hamid Hassan is a good news. However, we will take into account his form and fitness during upcoming practice matches,” Dawlat Khan Ahmadzai, the chief selector said.

“The final decision has been made based on many facts and considerations. I would like to thank all those who continue to support our national heroes,” Ahmadzai noted.

“As chief selector, It is my duty to select a competitive team. However, there were some challenges that we needed to handle. We selected the best squad considering factors such as experience, fitness, team balance, current form and conditions. We hope to play great cricket without any fear and with a fighting spirit in the tournament,” Ahmadzai said.

Afghanistan Cricket team will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on June 1 at Bristol.
