Barcelona’s Brazilian midfielder Phillipe Coutinho has ruled out a summer return to England. Coutinho had been recently linked with a return to Premier League with reported interests from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Former Liverpool have had a tough start to the life in Barcelona, where he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the playing eleven. Reports regarding a potential Premier League had begun to emerge. But Coutinho has cut those reports short saying:
“My head is exclusively in Barcelona. Returning to England now does not fit into my plans.
“This is my second season here. I have won titles but I am always an ambitious and demanding player. So, I want more and more.
“But I’m happy. I wanted to play in Spain and I’m at the best club in
Coutinho’s statement quashed the reports that were linking him with the return to Premier League afte his slow start to life in Barcelona.
Earlier Ernesto Valverde had spoken about a meeting he had with Coutinho regarding his on-field game. Valverde had mentioned he discussed few things with the Brazilian that he needed to work upon and few that he was doing right. Although, Valverde didn’t disclose the details calling them to be private on being pressed upon.
After beating Atletico Madrid and increasing their lead on the top of the La Liga by 11 points Barcelona will turn their attention to Champions League.
Barcelona will be playing Manchester United in their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals clash. Two of the former Liverpool players Luis Suarez and Phillipe Coutinho will be relishing the opportunity to play against Manchester United.
United will be hosting the first leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Winner of this fixture will meet either of Porto or Liverpool in the semi finals.
