Liverpool managed to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the last minute of the regular time thanks to a Toby Alderweireld own goal. The win meant Liverpool went top of the table with two points ahead of Manchester City. Southampton meanwhile won away at Brighton to get five points clear of the relegation places.
Southampton – LWLWW
Southampton are trying to collect as many points as they can at this stage of the season. They have won three of their last four which includes a big win against Tottenham Hotspur and now find themselves five points clear of the danger zone.
Liverpool – DWWWW
Since their Merseyside Derby draw Liverpool have won four games on the trot. After initial doubts were raised on Liverpool’s form they have responded back with four consecutive wins. Among these wins are crucial victories against Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur
Southampton will be without Michael Obafemi and Jannik Vestergaard due to injury. Shane Long is doubtful for the clash against Liverpool.
Reds will be without long-term absentees Joe Gomez and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Although both the players have returned to training but won’t be featuring this soon. Virgil Van Dijk was seen with ice pack wrapped around his ankle after the Spurs game but he is expected to be deemed fit to play.

At this stage of the season both teams need this win badly. Southampton will be expected to start deep against Liverpool and counter-attacks will be their greatest attacking assets. But still Liverpool’s dominancy will be expected at the south coast to get past Southampton and get the desired result.
