Bayern Munich’s Polish striker Robert Lewandoski felt that Bayern didn’t take enough risks against Liverpool in their Champions League fixture.
After a goalless draw at Anfield, Bayern was beaten 3-1 at Allianz Arena by Liverpool. Result meant that Bayern crashed out of this year’s Champions League and for the first time since 2010-11 at this stage of the competition.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool before they concede an own goal from Matip before half time. The score levelled at 1-1, Liverpool’s Dutch centre-back scored a header to make it 2-1 before Mane scored his second of the night to ensure Liverpool’s progress to the next stage.
Lewandoski said after the game,
“We didn’t play so offensive, and that is why Liverpool couldn’t play and score a goal in the first game,”
“We didn’t make the risk, to play forward and try to score the goal. Today was also [the same] I think, we didn’t try to play offensive, [play] forward and try to score the goals because we didn’t have a lot of chances. I think that was our problem.
“I knew if we were playing too defensive it would be tough. We were playing at home but that wasn’t our game today. That’s why Liverpool beat us.
“Of course, we have to push again forward. We have the Bundesliga, a lot of games also in the cup. We’re still on this way to win, maybe in the Bundesliga, that’s why you have to push forward.
“Okay, I’m annoyed with what’s happened today. I’m not happy, I’m angry because we know what we should do better but we didn’t [do it].”Lewandowski said via beIN SPORTS.
Bayern will be next in action on Sunday against Mainz in Bundesliga Matchday 26.
